Ya llegó el calor.... or in other words, its freaking hot!
Congrats to Austin on his call to Dallas, spanish speaking!
So i ended up going to the doctor monday night. That was interesting. We went to the red cross first cause we heard they did x rays, but they were closed, so we had to go to the general hospital, which sucked because Mexicans here take their kids to the ER for everything. Even a small cough, they bring em in. So we had to sit there and wait for ever and finally they called me into the back, but Elder Brockbank couldnt go with me. So im sitting in the back waiting room now (which is also full of slightly congested children) when i spot a man with a bloody t shirt draped over his hand. He saw and wanted to talk. Its cause im white. Basically, he had nearly severed his ring finger completely while working as a fisherman, almost 8 hours earlier. he was drunk. He went home and fell asleep in his hammock when his brother came home and dragged him to the er. After telling me that, i had to see the finger, so i asked and he whipped it out, presented it to me with a wave of his good hand, and smiled. at least he could still smile.
This week was solid. Wednesday and Thursday there was a leaders only training, so I got to work with another district leaders comp for those two days. I got to babysit, or in non missionary terms, the elder i went out with was still a little green, like 1 week green. It was so fun! I remember how lost I was when i first got here, and then got to see him try and struggle through the same thing. Its a vicious cycle. Wednesday we worked in my area, and had a good day. My favorite part of the day was when we ran into one of the local drunks/drug addicts who likes talking to us. The week earlier, he called me peter pan. But we ran into him and he didnt recognize Elder Bradford (the new elder) so he started talking to him. Elder Bradford couldnt understand a word cause he was slurring so bad, but me and these two guys behind Raul (the local drunk) working a fruit stand were laughing our butts off cause he was saying the most ridiculous things like "Nobody is going to go to your church. you know why? Cause Raul doesnt go!" That was fun. Then we taught a whole lesson where Elder Bradford subsituted the word for sin (pecado) with fish (pescado). That was pretty good too. I would try not to crack up, but the investogator kept giggling so much so Bradford asked me what he was saying and i had to tell him.
Then Thursday we worked his area and it didnt go so great because all, literally 100% of the appointments his comp put for us fell. So we did a lot of walking and knocking. We got back to church were our comps were a little early and it hadnt ended yet. I went and sat in the very back where i could hear and see president Salinas talking. You could have cut the spirit with a knife. He started talking about a question he always gets as a mission president, "how did you get called to be one?" He told the elders, "I still have no idea, but all I know is when I was sitting in President Utchdorfs office, thats what he told me i would be doing for the next 3 years" The general impression in the room was "wait, hold up, rewind...you were in pres utchdorfs office?!?" It was a pretty amazing story.
We had a fast as a zone for more investigators and baptisms on Tuesday. I had meds that i got from the doctor, but was still planning on doing the fast so my comp didnt do it alone, until we went to our bishops house and his wife gave us each a glass of juice and my comp whipered to me "your drinking mine". So i drank mine and we waited till nobody was looking and i drank his too. There went my fast...at least i tried
We ate mole twice this past week. Mole is like pure Mexican goodness. Its a good week if we have it once, but twice bliss.
Well nothing else too specail happened. i tried to take a few pictures around my area, so i will attach them and let you have a look see. The other one im sending is of my 2 brothers and my dad. As missionaries, we have family terms for who your trainer was(your dad) and who else your trainer has trained(your brothers).the guy on the far left is elder rupp, who roomed with me in the mtc. We are actually twin borther cause we were born in the same area with the same dad at the same time. That never happens, The other white guy is my zone leader right now. He was the first born about a year ago of Elder Valdivia, my dad, who is the short mexican with the funny "I wish i was as big as my offspring" look on his face.
Hope everyone has a great week!
Love, Elder Kitterman
