The weather here is amazing right now. I love Cancun, just not for the same reasons some of my fellow young adults do...
We had two baptisms this week. One was Marisol, the mother of Lenin who was baptized last week. That means that this family is complete now. Three weeks ago we baptized the grandma and Marisol´s daughter Kelly, two weeks ago Lenin, and this week was her turn. She was a tough nut. First she argued with us for a month saying she had already been baptized by a so called prophet, then she didnt want to do it till june, then april, and then she said last tuesday "I dont want to be baptized anymore". But with a lot of patience, she came around the day before. The other was Silvia, Marisol´s best firend who led us to Marisol´s family.
About two and a half months ago I met Silvia. We visited an old investigator who happened to be her sister in law. She was there when we taught them, and she seemed disinterested, but my comp, Elder Juarez at the time, persisted. She didnt want to pray, and when we invited her to baptism, she laughed and said no. But she liked listening, so we kept going back for some reason. Then I remember she just changed one day when she said she wanted to pray with us. We had given her the book of mormon and she had read all of first nephi. She is almost finished with the whole book now, and whips out stories from it and appilies them to her life better than we ever could now. I have loved every single one of my converts, but she is something else. I had the privelage of baptizing and then confirming her right after, and it was even more special knowing that she fully understood what exactly she was doing, in comparison to those that only understand as well as we the missionaries can explain it to them.
Then the next day was stake conference, and i didnt know before hand, but it was a nation wide stake conference and the prophet and Elder Nelson spoke along with another 70 and a lady from the first primary presidency. It was way legit, especially hearing the prophet adress the people of this country directly. There are 3 stakes in cancun, and there was probably about 800-1000 people at this conference. I was blown away. It would be amazing to see all the members, not just the active ones go to church. For example, my ward has about 120-130 active members go to church each sunday, but in total it has 500 members. Home teaching anyone?
We found a new family this week. They are 5 including the parents, with 3 sonds. The oldest is 15, and when we invited him to baptism, he responded with a very assuring "vamos!" or "lets go!" in english. We brought them to the conference, but then after wards, lost them. Thats a first for me. They were waiting by the members truch that brought them when we had to run back inside for something. Wehn we came back out, they were gone, and we couldnt find them. We are hoping they just took a taxi home. We dont know until we see them tonight.
We have another baptism planned for this week, of 10 year old Jesus. His family is active in a different ward, but he still hasnt been baptized, so we are teaching him and trying to get his family to come to the correct ward.
Well thats about it for this week. Nothing really too exciting, just some good ole missionary work. Hope everyone has a great week!
Love, Elder Kitterman
